 Why I Ride
Bob Blatner started mountain bike racing ten years ago when a couple of his buddies kidnapped him while they were driving to a local ride and "forced" him to do a race in Angels Camp, CA. He got a podium finish as a Sport racer against a lot of younger riders and was hooked. Bob lives in Antioch, CA with his wife Elaine and has two grown children. "You know you're getting old when your kids stop asking you for money". Bob is a two-time cancer survivor and says it really puts your life in perspective. "God must have a reason for keeping me around so I try to make sure I'm thankful and do what I can for others with cancer." Bob works out just about every day and generally rides alone. "I have a very specific training schedule and it's difficult to get all my work done riding with others." Bob's racing goals include repeating his National and State Championships and eventually winning the UCI Master World Championships. "I did the Worlds in 2005 and had a great race but only managed 4th, so it won't be easy."
