 Why I Ride
With his abundance of race experience in both motocross and mountain biking, it is no wonder Team Sho-Air has accepted Johnny "O Show" O'Mara's request to act as the team captain and mentor. Everyone on Team Sho-Air agrees that they are all little faster just having Johnny on the same team. He was the 1983 AMA 125cc National Motocross and 1984 AMA Supercross Series Champion. In addition to his AMA titles the "O'Show," as his fans like to call him, was part of four American teams that won the prestigious Motocross des Nations and he was a member of the first U.S. team ever to win the international competition in 1981. O'Mara was a pioneer in bringing world-class fitness to motocross. He was known for his intense training regimen and it served him well in his post motorcycle racing career. O'Mara was as comfortable competing in triathlons and national level bicycling competitions as he was on a motocross track. He rode as a mountain bike factory rider and became a three time national cross country champion. The "O Show" currently enjoys life with his family in Laguna Niguel, California. His excellent use of time management allows him to train on his mountain bike 7 days a week and still make time to spend with his wife and his little daughter Shelby. Most of the time the "O Show" trains alone but his best memories are the wonderful people he has met while riding. Did you know? The "O Show's" favorite non-cycling athlete is Ricky Carmichael and his hero is John Tomac. Motocross: The 1983 AMA 125cc National Champion. The 1984 AMA Supercross Champion. A member of the winning Motocross des Nations and Trophee des Nations teams (The World Team Motocross Championship) in 1981 (Lommel, Belgium and Beilstein, West Germany), 1982 (Gaildorf, Germany and Wohlen, Switzerland), 1984 (Vanta, Finland and Varberg, Sweden), and 1986 (Maggiora, Italy). The Motocross des Nations is the most prestigious motocross event in the world. From 1981 through 1985, O'Mara won a total of 16 AMA National Championships and Supercross races. Won two 125cc World Championship Grand Prix races (USA in 1980 and Switzerland in 1982). Won a 250cc World Championship Grand Prix at Unadilla, New York in 1985. Won the prestigious Paris Supercross in 1984 and 1985. Retired in 1990. Mentor to 14 time National and Supercross Champion Ricky Carmichael. Mountain Bike: In 1991, O'Mara won the NORBA Cross Country Mountain Bike Amateur National Championship. 1992 Calif. State Cross Country Professional Champion. In 1992 and 1993, rode for the Diamond Back factory cross country mountain bike team. In 1994 and 1995, rode for the Dos Equis Barracuda pro mountain bike team. Currently # 1 ranked 40+ Master Expert in the nation. (With over 200+ race wins) 2004 & 2005 Norba US Master Cross Country National Champion
