Why I RideTodd started mountain biking on his 35th birthday. It reminded him of his first times on a bicycle and the sense of freedom and independence he gained from riding. Now, eight years later, he still can't wait to hit the hills and escape the city. "When I'm Mountain biking my normal everyday stress melts away and disappears into the lines of great singletrack. I realize how lucky I am to live in such a great place, to be surrounded by such good friends and to have the support of my family." In 1992 Todd was diagnosed with Graves disease. He was down to only 140 pounds. After treatment, he slowly regained his strength and weight until he reached 190 pounds! But he was still unfit and unmotivated. Then, in 1998 his brother Brad offered to take him on an "easy spin" in a local park. It was extremely difficult, but at the same time so fun, that he has not stopped riding since. What really made the difference for Todd was his brother's encouragement, knowledge, and his positive attitude. Todd continues to enjoy the challenges that competitive mountain bike racing offers. "Racing pushes me to the limit. It has taught me to never quit, even if I have to carry my bike across the finish line." Todd's goals for 2007 are to continue to learn from other great riders, to be competitive in every race he enters, and to encourage and share knowledge with other riders.
